Loved it! What an intriguing juxtaposition of the cultural and natural landscapes. Having just returned last night from an intensely social and structured week of family (a good week), a quiet stroll through the bird park and arboretum was just the kind of wistful solitude I needed. I laughed at the thought of Sir Winston ambling rotundly down the quiet path toward you out of some wispy space-time discontinuity (or maybe I watch too much sci-fi). Damn, all of it just sounded fun. And so much of the texture and presence of the moments might have been missed with "more precise planning." But I'm a fellow wanderer, as you know. Be well, Drew.
Thanks for coming along Scott, and for your astute commentary -- I always enjoy reading them. Glad to hear the that you break was fulfilling. Good wishes for '25.
You would have liked 'Durbs' -- or felt right at home there anyway -- what with the sugar, shipping and humidity. And even some SF style hills to boot. Happy N. Year!
So wonderful to read about the built environment , the substrate and the people!! Is it really as steep as Vancouver? Looking forward to your next leg!!
Thanks David. Indeed, I think you got me on this one- just trying to keep our Canadian friends engaged. But it's definitely a different feel than our sunken eastern ports. Still working on your hot springs question from before. Happy '25.
A great post! Thanks so much. You made me almost feeling being there! I especially liked "verdure." Sorry I haven't commented before--truth is I didn't notice that I could! Roger
Thank you, Drew! You’re doing such a great job describing your adventures!!

Enjoy the coast Drew! I'm catching up on your wonderful posts over a cup of tea this morning and dreaming of the Indian Ocean...
Sounds like a great trip! Hope you can get more trips in over the break!

History, geology, ornithology! I’m learning a lot. Curious what you’re eating!
"eating," - what's that? ;)
